Empty Frames

Greek band “Empty Frame” were appointed the task of supporting Sivert Hoyem during his tour. And they very successfully pulled it off, without even blinking. An interesting cross mix between acoustic and epic with some Balkan influences on their sound, they impressed the crowds.

The presence of *real* classical musical instruments, not only on their recorded material but on stage as well, such as cello and violin gave an interesting twist to the evening. With Kate Patzari leading the cello and playfully attracting most of the attention as the center-piece of the stage, they brought in a beautifully orchestrated and executed musical surprise. Watch this space!

Sivert Hoyem

Sivert’s no stranger to the Athenian audiences and his past track record of live performances had already set pretty high expectations. Despite the cancellations of his previous performances within Greek turf and imminent fear of possible cancellation of this one too, not only did he make it to the stage in his typically immaculate black suit ensemble, but he delivered one more excellent performance.

By far the most well known Norwegian export product for many Greeks, Sivert invited the crowd to join him in singing. Still, his torn-into-pieces and scratchier-than-usual, bass-like voice only enhanced his live performance after all. He even managed to convince the crowd to refrain from smoking (too much), in his aid. Rare phenomenon, indeed!

Covering mainly his solo work, since the death of Madrugada, he didn’t fail to impress. The cold-as-ice looking yet friendly and engaging singer drove Gagarin’s tightly packed arena delirious. Be it the undefined sadness of his voice, be it his ability to bring up memories of his past work, he had the audience asking for...”more pain” («Δώσε πόνο!») time and again. More sober while- on- stage than ever, as per his own confession, he was magnificent nonetheless. His “post apocalyptic” - meets - “country rock” style sound gave no less than goose bumps. Always respectful of his crowd he gave them one more song outside the playlist. And they couldn’t have been any happier, yet sad at the same time, for the show came to an end.
